HOPE KEHALER, LCSW

MY PASSION HAS ALWAYS BEEN TO HELP THOSE STRUGGLING WITH LIFE’S CHALLENGES.

My practice is collaborative, engaging, transparent, and empathetic. I work to build bridges of understanding within and amongst individuals using a systemic approach that focuses on reducing blame, hopelessness, and anxiety so as to build bonds of connection, love, and compassion.

MY BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE

As an undergraduate at the Johns Hopkins University, I developed an interest in helping multi-stressed families and children navigate some of life’s most difficult emotional challenges such as loss, addiction, trauma and poverty. For over a decade, I have helped individuals, couples, and families take on these struggles through my work as a case manager at Children’s Aid, and more recently through my roles as a supervisor and an assistant director at Mental Health Association of New York City.  This experience is enhanced by my work in mental health settings where I have provided psychotherapy for adults and children diagnosed with serious mental illness, anxiety, depression, learning disorders, attachment issues, PTSD and relationship issues.

Following graduation from Columbia School of Social Work, I completed the Ackerman Institute for the Family’s clinical externship. In addition to this training, I have also completed an externship in Emotionally-Focused Couples Therapy and a training program in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT).
